The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring that all financial and bookkeeping functions are carried out efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with legal requirements. Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including: month and end-year process, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll and utilities, treasury, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations, check runs, fixed asset activity, debt activity etc.
- Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements.
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
- Coordinate and complete annual audits.
- Provide recommendations to improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
- Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Meet financial accounting objectives.
- Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
- Develop and implement cost accounting procedures and methods to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, planning, and forecasting.
- Regularly review and analyze inventory, material and labor costs.
- Prepare and present cost reports, including forecasts, budget analyses, and quarterly cost volumes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master's degree or CPA would be an advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to direct and supervise.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in relevant accounting software.
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with cost accounting and financial analysis.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills and experience creating financial reports and conducting cost analyses.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, guide, and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used.
- A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles.
- Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations.
- Professional certification such as CMA, CGA, or CPA is considered a plus.
