Job Details

The Assistant Controller position will report to the Corporate Controller and support the day to day management of the Accounting Department. The position will be responsible for managing and mentoring a team of approximately 9 professional accountants (with 3 direct reports). Responsibilities include managing all general accounting functions as well as monitoring the monthly balance sheets, perform monthly, quarterly, and year end reporting (internal and external), the processing of general ledger journal entries, and assisting the Controller with the year-end audit. This is a high visibility position reporting to the Corporate Controller and working with multiple other teams including physician and operational leadership. Essential functions include:

  • Assist in managing a team of accountants to ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial statements.
  • Review and approve staff's work including, journal entries, accounting reconciliations, and balance sheet analyses.
  • Manages monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Assist in developing and implementing processes and controls for ensuring data integrity and strong internal control over financial reporting
  • Take a lead role in critical accounting changes, process improvement projects, and accounting software implementations.
  • Assist in technical accounting researching, providing recommendations and writing memos on new and/or proposed technical accounting guidance relevant to the company and industry.
  • Take a lead role in the company's annual audit, including the review of documents submitted to the external auditors, helping to manage workflow, and providing ongoing communications with the audit team.
  • Support the Corporate Controller and other Senior Management as necessary in executing the network strategic plan, including additional duties and special projects as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting processes (financial closure, reporting, internal controls, budgeting)
  • Strong work ethic and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, preferable in healthcare
  • CPA preferred
  • 5 - 7 years of increasing responsible accounting experience, 2 years in management role
  • Experience with project management, implementation of internal controls, and technical accounting research
  • High degree of knowledge with GAAP and FASB topics
  • Highly proficient with Excel (V-Lookups, Pivot Tables, Macros) and Office
  • NetSuite ERP experience preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • 3 direct reports and 9 indirect reports.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains direct reports.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the staff and department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with Company policies.
  • Provide additional supervisory responsibilities as needed
