Job Description
The selected Attorney will provide legal advice and legal services to central office, county offices and/or staff for juvenile law matters relating to child welfare, child support and personnel matters. They will represent and assist in administrative and / or court matters.

Attend court, maintain responsibility for matters as they pertain to Termination of Parental Rights (TPR,) Adoptions, Foster Care Licensing Actions, and other general legal issues relating to the safety of children. The attorney will work closely with Family Case Managers to prepare for court hearings and may serve as legal counsel for internal employment issues.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Attorney General on litigation and tort claims matters
  • Advise departmental staff on various program and legal areas
  • Oversee contract process for local office attorneys
  • Draft and review contracts and correspondence
  • Draft and review legislation and administrative rules
  • Draft pleadings, motions and discovery, and responses, appeals and appellate briefs
  • Conduct legal research
  • Provide general legal support for Office of General Counsel
  • Conduct legal trainings for Family Case Managers, attorneys and others as requested
  • Litigate Children in Need of Services and Termination of Parental Rights cases in State Courts representing the agency in such actions
  • Handle administrative matters and hearings as assigned
  • Organize and manages caseload in preparation of hearings and/or litigation
  • Delegate to and provides support for any legal support staff
  • May be required serve as local counsel for the office of the AG on assigned cases

What You'll Need for Success:
  • Doctorate of Jurisprudence;
  • Indiana bar admission with license in good standing OR ability to waive in
  • Strong legal research, writing and litigation skills;
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply relevant statutes, case law and rules
