Job Details

CNC Lathe Machinist must load programs, set-up tooling and fixtures; set tooling offsets and modify programs to produce a quality part according to blueprint in an expeditious manner. The CNC Lathe Machinist is evaluated on work results (quality & output) and teamwork based on the company values.

JOB SPECIFICS:

Priority Jobs – Completing Orders

Machinist will confirm Priority (Hot) Jobs designated by Lead, Programmers and Production. Machinist will set up and complete Priority Jobs as early as possible.

  • Workflow – No Idle Machines

Will follow assigned job priorities and will provide input regarding more efficient ways to work, inform Lead and Supervisors if additional tools or equipment are needed.

Goal 1 – Have more experienced Machinists do set ups while they oversee/operate longer run (production) jobs
Goal 2 – Have Machinists and Operators operate 2 or more machines with longer run (production) jobs
Tooling – Practical & Efficient

Will always alert and inform Lead and Supervisors if Tools are needed or if more efficient tooling use can be achieved.

  • Fixtures – Preparation & Planning

Machinist will appropriately store and label fixtures for future use.

  • Travelers - Measuring

Machinist will appropriately fill out Travelers and will always communicate issues or discrepancies.

  • Training
  • Will always seek technical training and team development opportunities
  • Assist management in preparing team to ensure we maintain and qualify for ISO and related certification
  • Support Team
  • Help Leads, Supervisors and fellow machinists meet and exceed goals
  • Inspect Parts carefully
  • Regularly report on issues and improvement initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to understand Controller and Machine operation
  • Must be able to follow instructions, read and understand Blueprints
  • Must be able to use measuring devices (calipers, micrometers etc.) to verify quality of work performed at the machine
  • Must be familiar and know all programming codes to perform the necessary changes to program(s) at the machine controller, to produce a quality part to print
  • Must be able to set and load tooling in machine and to adjust offsets
  • Must be able to maintain machines fluid levels and keep machine and surrounding area clean.
  • Must set up and produce quality parts in an efficient and quick manner
  • Must be a flexible team player willing and able to assist in areas outside of lathes to ensure a clean and productive working environment
  • Must be professional, polite and cooperative with all other departments
