Job Details

The Estimator is responsible for understanding and evaluating project plans, specifications and other factors that affect project cost. It is critically important that they account for everything needed to successfully procure work in both hard bid and cost-plus scenarios. They must have a thorough knowledge of how to “build”, and apply that knowledge when preparing bid packages, as opposed to just evaluating what is on the plans and specifications.

Engineering, Construction Management or Architectural degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
3-5 years of construction estimating experience; experience leading estimates on large, complex commercial projects over $5 million preferred
Lead estimating efforts on large and complex projects
Provide conceptual estimates, detailed estimates, and detailed self-perform work estimates
Organize, research, and strategically plan for estimate preparation, pricing, scheduling, and final submission to the customer
Determine which subcontractors to include in bidding and budgeting process
Cultivate subcontractor and supplier relationships
Coordinate and collaborate with preconstruction efforts
Coordinate and collaborate with project teams
Determine pricing to be used in final estimate
Provide work assignments to the estimating team and ensure accurate estimating information provided is incorporated into final estimate including, but not limited to: quantity surveys and cost estimates, subcontractor proposals, research on tax laws, collective bargaining agreements, permits, etc.
Write and submit Requests for Information
Maintain regular interface and open communication at all levels
Interface regularly with team members, owners, architects, and engineers to ensure complete understanding of the project scope
Ensure that team members, including subcontractors, understand initial project requirements and on-going updates to those requirements
Research and analyze historical project data for application to current project
Work collaboratively with designers, working toward creative and cost-effective design solutions
Lead estimate reviews with project leadership
