Job Details

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of ten years of transactional construction legal experience, including some or all of the following qualifications:

  • Public procurement and contract negotiation experience, including bidding processes and alternative delivery method contracts, with expertise advising clients regarding lease-leaseback agreements, pre-qualification, multiple-prime, design-build and design-bid-build, CUPCCAA, CMAS, and/or piggyback contracts
  • In-depth knowledge of the legal framework applicable to public agency contracting, including the California Public Contract Code, Education Code, Government Code, and applicable labor code and prevailing wage provisions
  • Significant experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, administering, and enforcing a variety of types of public contracts, including construction services contracts, and agreements with design professionals, project inspectors, construction managers, and other consultants
  • Experience resolving bid protests, requests for substitution, stop payment notice claims, change orders, delay and cost overrun claims, payment bond issues, contract termination, and payment disputes
  • Flexibility, initiative, and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters arising in representing public entities
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks, with strong attention to detail and accuracy, and the willingness and ability to lead and manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated success working as a team player in a fast-paced environment, as well as the ability to work independently
  • Excellent writing, research, analytical, and communication skills
  • Admitted to the California State Bar
  • Public agency experience is desired, but not required; prior school or community college district representation is preferred
