Job Details
As the Business Controller, you’ll be accountable for financial and accounting activities. This individual will be the process owner of the entire AP/AR/billing/payroll financial, operational reporting, and budgeting processes.
The reporting process will include monthly closings and the preparation of month-end financial statements including (i) Year-To-Date and Monthly comparisons to budget with commentary on budget and year over year variances and the organization’s operations (ii) bank reconciliations, and (iii) the gathering and review of the WIP, AR, AP and Accrual reports.
As a member of the management team, you will be expected to bring your understanding of company’s finances to the table to assist in strategic decision making. As a leader you will encourage innovative ideas that are sound and progressive, including improving and streamlining financial processes and controls, while supporting creativity in your area of responsibility. The Business Controller will support the President, the management team, and our corporate partner team.
This individual will be expected to know each task manager’s job and be able to perform appropriate tasks on an interim basis if needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in P&L, Capital Expenditure and Cash Flow budget creation and management
Project tracking, cost tracking, margin expansion opportunities, financial analysis, and the presentation of financials to our corporate partners
Support the onboarding of acquisitions
Help drive the software upgrade implementation process
Collaborate with our corporate partners and outside CPA’S on year-end audit or tax documentation gathering process
Report accounting findings and attend monthly meetings with the management team and corporate finance staff
Assist with ad-hoc projects as assigned by management and our corporate partners
Maintain a process manual for each task and assist in keeping it evergreen as the business needs results in process change
Education and Experience:
Degree in Accounting/Finance or 10+ years documented work experience in a similar capacity
Prior supervisory role desirable
CPA desirable
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Detail-oriented individual with a strong desire to help enhance business processes and drive growth supported by data
Excellent interpersonal skills: Proactive communicator and team player who is capable of working with personnel at all levels
Ability to analyze key financial data and assess its impact on the organization quickly and accurately
Proficiency in accounting software
Prior Experience with ERP system is a plus
Budgetary and Financial reporting experience
Must be able to take initiative on a wide variety of projects essential to growing the business
Construction industry or similar substantive Work in Progress Accounting experience is a plus
Former experience with Servicetitan strongly preferred
Ability to travel to operating companies throughout Michigan. Minor occasional day travel required 2-3 times per month. Please note this is primarily a remote position.
