We are seeking an individual to oversee the tax preparation and planning efforts for a significant share of the firm’s client base. The Director and their team will provide sophisticated tax planning, compliance, and research services to ultra-high net worth clients, and collaborate with the Managing Directors and family office peers to offer integrated wealth planning. 90% of the work is with high net worth individuals with a lot of moving parts.

Job Details

An ideal candidate is a disciplined, motivated self-starter. You will have knowledge of the HNW space, but also understand your way around Wall Street, stock options, carried interest rules, etc. You ideally have working experience with wealth transfer taxes and basic estate planning, i.e. SLATs, CRATs/CRUTs, IDGTs, etc. More importantly, a significant part of the job requires manipulating large swaths of data, so Excel and other database management skills would be a huge plus.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead a team that provides tax compliance and planning services to the firm’s family office clients
Collaborate with family office peers (attorney, financial planner, and wealth advisor) and clients’ other trusted professionals to provide integrated wealth planning
Utilize technology to automate, scale, and elevate the tax practice
Translate and communicate complex tax issues to clients and non-tax professionals
Remain current on trends, legislative developments, and tax authority decisions, and proactively apply them
Maintain a personal commitment to continuing education for professional development and growth

Qualifications & Characteristics

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
CPA certification
10+ years’ experience with federal and state personal and trust income tax, of which a significant amount is in serving high net worth individuals, closely held businesses, estates, trusts, and private foundations
A Masters or JD in tax, estate planning, or a related field is a plus
A thorough understanding of integrated family wealth planning, including estate and financial planning
Experience with complex K-1’s, foreign reporting, and multi-state filings
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, their trusted advisors, and peers
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Candidate should be confident and assertive, and able to garner the respect of others
The ability to operate in a dynamic and fast-paced environment is essential
Familiarity with UltraTax or ProSystems a plus
A significant part of the job requires manipulating large swaths of data, so Excel and other database management skills would be a huge plus
Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and demonstrate the highest level of client service, ethics, and integrity
Proficient in the use of Salesforce, Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and other office software and technology
