Financial Controller - Retail / Consumer Goods

Started with a small newspaper stand in Maynard, MA in 1964 and has grown now operating over 80 stores throughout the Northeast and employing over 3,000 employees. We are the largest family-owned and operated specialty gift business in the Northeast. Our departments include fashion, accessories, spa, home décor, stationery, jewelry, sports, and more. We are looking for a Financial Controller to join our team to help take us to the next level!

Responsibilities:

• Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage the preparation of quarterly financial statements.
• Develop budgets, report variances to budget, financial forecasts, and report results to the executive team.
• Ensure that property taxes, insurance and reserve payments are made on a timely basis.
• Ensure the internal controls of financial reporting process.
• Oversee payroll and benefits administration function in collaboration with the Human Resources department.
• Process Sales Tax returns & payments including filling in the returns.
• Produce income statement analytics & research discrepancies.
• Assist the CFO with preparation of periodic budgets and forecasts.
• Complete audit requests for year-end and quarterly audits.

Qualifications:

• BA degree in accounting / finance/ economics / business or related study.
• 5+ years of related work experience.
• Ability to lead accounting functions and deliver results to the executive team.
• Retail or Consumer Goods experience highly desired.
