Head of Engineering

Growing startup backed by Polychain, Tribe Capital, & the Solana Foundation is hiring for a Head of Engineering! They are building a blockchain eco system that will allow others to build out blockchain to their own application - similar to Cosmos or Polkadot, just a much faster version. At a high level, the Solana blockchain is *monolithic*: it attempts to do several things at once, including executing programs, storing data, and establishing the final block ordering. They break up these functions to create high-throughput modular rollups. They will enable users to deploy their apps as their own customizable rollups, where they can pick (1) the base layer, (2) the virtual machine (EVM, SVM, Move), and (3) additional modifications for greater value accrual

The Head of Engineering will work closely with the CEO and other stakeholders to develop mission-critical systems as well as manage and grow their engineering team. You will design and implement technical solutions, establish best practices for the engineering team, and ensure the timely delivery on key milestones.

Role Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build and execute on the technical vision and strategy
• Define and implement the engineering roadmap, including the prioritization of features and projects
• Drive technical innovation, processes, and best practices to ensure the team scales effectively
• Build an outstanding organization by hiring exceptional people and fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and inclusivity
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers
• Ensure the engineering team has the resources and support needed to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality products

Examples of what you may oversee:

• Building their novel trust-minimized (honest minority) settlement layer for Solana VM rollups
• Supporting additional bytecodes for Eclipse rollups
• Integrating oracles so they automatically work with all Eclipse rollups
• Novel customizations by the request of dApps deploying to Eclipse

Qualifications

• 5-10+ years of software engineering experience and a strong expertise in Rust (at least 2-3 years)
• Experience overseeing other engineers and building / scaling high-performing engineering teams within a high-growth organization
• Strong technical skills, including experience with blockchain infrastructure and distributed systems
• BS or MS in EECS, Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
• Experience with building high-performant, high-throughput systems
• Experience working at a FAANG / Web2 tech company, hedge fund, HFT firm, blockchain infrastructure, or similar
• Strong product sense to proactively identify interesting features, use cases, and opportunities
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with internal and external stakeholders alike
• Bonus: Familiarity with optimistic and zero-knowledge rollup tech
