- Represent clients in court or before government agencies, presenting evidence to defend or prosecute in civil litigation.
- Prepare and draft legal documents, such as wills, deeds, patent applications, mortgages, leases, and contracts.
- Prepare legal briefs and opinions, and file appeals in state and federal courts of appeal.
- Conduct pretrial depositions of experts and other witnesses.
- Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses.
- Confer with colleagues to establish and verify basis for legal proceedings.
- Evaluate findings and develop strategies and arguments in preparation for presentation of cases.
- Advise clients concerning business transactions, claim liability, advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits, or legal rights and obligations.
- Gather evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal actions, by such means as interviewing clients and witnesses to ascertain the facts of a case.
- Manage all phases of the litigation process to include discovery, trial, and appeal.
- Use electronic discovery software to manage large volumes of electronic data produced during litigation.
Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school.
- Admitted to the Texas Bar.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a trial attorney or litigator, preferably within a law firm, regional firm, or national firm.
- Proven experience in trial preparation, fact development, e-discovery, discovery, briefing, motions, and pleadings.
- Exceptional oral advocacy and legal writing skills.
- Previous courtroom experience is essential.
- Prior clerkship experience is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and cases simultaneously.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to professional ethics and client confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research software.
