Job Details

Job Summary: The teacher is the person responsible to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages scholars to develop and fulfill their academic and social potential. It is the expectation that this individual will work with colleagues, parents, and scholars to create a school environment that is focused on scholar achievement, character, and success beyond high school. Our school is a school where scholars and families are supported, while maintaining high expectations for all. The teacher is expected to fully embrace the school’s methodology and uphold the high expectations of the school. The teacher will support an equitable environment with rigorous instruction, joyous interactions, and strong community partnerships. Though it is impossible to list all roles the teacher will fill, specific job responsibilities include:

Essential Functions:
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
  • Develop lesson plans and assessments from the grade/content school provided curriculum
  • Instruct and monitor scholars in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
  • Manage scholar behavior in the classroom by establishing a strong classroom culture, with consistent routines and procedures
  • Develop strong working relationships with scholars and support a joyous culture
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the scholar code of conduct
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual scholars and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of scholars' progress and development
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations
  • Use formative data, such as exit tickets and interim assessments, to drive instruction
  • Maintain the educational bar of equity with high expectations for all scholars
  • Implement Universal Design for Learning differentiation supports as provided in curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with specialist teachers, special education teachers, educational assistants, and administration
  • Deliver or ensure that RTI interventions occur as specified
  • Attend and participate in RTI and IEP meetings
  • Lead whole class and small group instruction
  • Participate in department, school, and parent meetings, including teacher coaching cycles
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to scholars, colleagues and parents regarding scholar progress and scholar needs
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Prepare classroom for class activities
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Observe and evaluate scholar's performance and development
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
  • Keep Skyward grade books up to date
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with scholars from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds
  • Ensure parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities
  • Provide supervision in the lunchroom and on the playground, as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality of scholar records
  • Prepare and participate in parent/teacher conferences

Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in education

Experience
Experience teaching in an urban setting preferred

Licensing
Elementary and Middle K-9, or K-12 in specific content area
Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification required annually before first day with scholars
