We are seeking a Paralegal in our Trusts & Estates group. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience and be able to handle all aspects of estate planning and trust administration, specifically relating to Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.

General Description: Handle all aspects of estate planning and trust administration, including tax returns, asset valuations, probate forms, and accountings. Work with a team in a fast-paced and organized manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the preparation of estate tax returns, gift tax returns and fiduciary income tax returns
Maintain books and record for estates and trusts
Assist with asset valuations (as of date of death and alternate valuation date)
Verify bank balances and prepares inventory and appraisement
Coordinate and manages post-death administration of trusts and estates
Maintain estate bank accounts and investments
Prepare and file probate forms and manage dockets
Prepare fiduciary accountings; organize assets; coordinate trust funding; marshal assets; prepare real property deeds and related documents
Prepare annual trust accounting
Prepare schedules for asset distribution and trust funding, and coordinate the distributions on termination of trust
Determine the documentation necessary to effect sale or transfer of probate and non-probate assets including real estate, securities, bank accounts, promissory notes, mortgages, automobiles and recreational vehicles
Obtain federal and state tax clearance to release any tax liabilities
Coordinate the transfer of assets into trusts, including bank accounts, stock transfers and real estate deeds
Preparation of financial/computation spreadsheets
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proficiency with Windows-based software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook are required.
Strong knowledge of fiduciary income tax principles is a priority.
Proficiency in a tax preparation program such as Wolters Kluwer GEMS, and CCH Axcess is required.
Must have the ability to work in an organized, efficient manner under minimal supervision as well as take a proactive approach to being team oriented.
