Job Details
Position Purpose/core Responsibilities
Performs normal plastic injection molding setup functions according to established procedures. Changes molds, downloads computer programs and optimizes machine performance. Has primary responsibility for the dimensional quality of parts produced. Responsible for starting of new jobs, troubleshooting and resolving process problems and optimizing machine cycles.
Main Duties
Recognizes the various types of cosmetic and dimensional defects and modifies the molding process within allowable limits to eliminate these defects.
Understands the customer’s cosmetic and dimensional requirements for the part being produced.
Measures parts for dimensional conformance using available metrology tools and instruments.
Stops the production process if the root cause of a defect cannot be eliminated. Reports the problem to the shift supervisor.
Performs the startup and processing of jobs.
Solves process, mold and material problems on the production floor. Assists in optimizing cycles to meet or exceed standard requirements.
Provides documentation on process parameters.
Set up functions for mold changes.
Assists with Insert changes as required.
Suggests ideas to provide methods of improvement in the company.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and use sense of smell. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance or stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Skill, Training, Or Educational Requirements
One to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, quality systems procedures, operating instruction, work orders and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and train other employees. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
