Job Details

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent combinations of relevant training and experience
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction management
  • Proficient with technical drawings systems and planning & reporting systems
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction industry practices and standards as well as experience with supervision, estimating, scheduling, budget preparation and project status reporting
  • Proven ability to work with and manage unionized subcontractors
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Must be a US Citizen

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Marine Construction experience
  • Experience with HCSS HeavyJob, P6, and/or SmartBuild

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure the project consistently meets or surpasses its financial targets by vigilantly overseeing and monitoring each development stage.
  • Organize regular meetings with area superintendents and project engineers to strategize means and methods, establish contracting schedules, and manage long lead delivery times.
  • Effectively manage all on-site operations and work sequences in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Analyze project estimates and plans to ascertain job costs, establish project execution methods, staffing needs, and allocation of available resources for different project phases.
  • Supervise and authorize monthly updates to job costs and quarterly cash flow projections. Additionally, review, approve, and negotiate change orders.
  • Proactively anticipate project requirements to prevent production delays, formulate staffing plans for each project phase, and collaborate closely with the Project Manager and HR team to oversee staff and craft relationships.
  • Assemble and lead a proficient project management team, define and delegate management responsibilities, and set clear goals.
  • Resolve unforeseen technical challenges and address any other issues that may arise during project execution.
  • Exhibit strong leadership qualities by maintaining open communication with department leads regarding work scopes.
  • Ensure project superintendents comprehend and execute the work according to specifications while maintaining safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Take responsibility for project closure, including finalizing paperwork, securing retainages, assisting supervisors, and expediting claims.
  • Assist in the procurement, buy-out, and management of subcontractors and suppliers/vendors to guarantee that subcontract/vendor agreements encompass the necessary quality-related scope of work.
  • Prepare and submit precise project status reports related to Quality Control.
  • Manage the project submittal process to ensure timely receipt, review, and approval of submittals, shop drawings, as-builts, and other essential documentation.
  • Actively participate in the Request for Information (RFI) process to ensure timely receipt, review, response, and closure.
  • Monitor project work for any instances of non-compliance and ensure that approved corrective measures are executed and properly closed out with documented acceptance.
  • Oversee project close-out procedures, including the efficient management of punch lists, commissioning, and the turnover of transitional system operations.
