R&D Food Technologist- Full time- RELO provided- Miami, FL

This role involves conducting research and development in food applications, utilizing analytical and laboratory skills, performing quality control tests, and troubleshooting to ensure product excellence. The candidate will be responsible for hands-on work both in the lab and on the production floor, taking new product concepts from the prototype stage through scale-up to full industrial production.


Responsibilities:
Formulate new products based on consumer trends, customer requests, or internal innovation strategies, with a focus on dough systems, savory and sweet fillings, and freezing performance.
Modify and optimize existing products for cost savings, improved sensory performance, shelf-life, regulatory, and/or nutrition.
Conduct ingredient research and apply food science principles to achieve desired product attributes.
Maintain accurate records of formulas, raw materials, and batch production procedures.
Coordinate and/or prepare laboratory prototypes and perform sensory, analytical, and stability testing.
Scale up formulations from lab to pilot plant to production in partnership with manufacturing and operations teams. Troubleshoot product or process issues during trials or after launch.
Develop and assist FSQA with maintenance of product specifications.
Develop and maintain formulation sheets, nutritional profiles, lab SOP, ingredient specifications, etc.
Ensure compliance with food safety standards, allergen labeling, and applicable regulatory guidelines (FDA, USDA, etc).
Collaborate closely with the sales team to align product development efforts with customer needs, market trends, and company strategy.
Participate in concept ideation, support the creation of product briefs, and ensure all product innovations are technically feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with internal policies, including ingredient sourcing, labeling claims, and regulatory compliance.
Evaluate alternative suppliers based on functionality, cost, lead times, and packaging formats.
Provide technical insights on ingredient performance and support decisions that affect production scalability and operational efficiency.
Participate in pilot runs and first production batches to monitor process performance, identify equipment or handling constraints, and adjust formulations or procedures as needed.
Ensure formulations are optimized for manufacturing efficiency, product consistency, and food safety compliance.

Skills you need:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in product development or food R&D.
Knowledge of food science principles and food processing techniques.
Sensory evaluation techniques are desirable.
Understanding of food processing equipment and production line dynamics
Knowledge of dough formulation, savory fillings, and thermal/freeze-thaw stability is a plus.
Familiarity with food industry regulations and quality assurance standards and nutritional labelling tools.
Proficient in data analysis and statistical tools.
