Apply, adapt, and optimize digital watermarking technology for object identification in various applications such as recycling/sustainability, brand authentication, anticounterfeiting, traceability, retail, and consumer engagement
Develop algorithms and implementations to improve the functionality of Digimarc watermark embedding and detection across an increasingly complex range of substrates, embedding methods, and image capture and processing devices
Perform basic and applied research in digital watermarking, signal processing, image processing, and other fields related to watermark embedding and signal detection and estimation
Prototype, implement, and test algorithms and analysis tools with a range of optimization and quality assurance objectives
prototype and integrate functionality into real-world embedding/printing, imaging, and machine vision systems including ink and embossing devices, lighting, optics, sensors, and the associated calibrations and processing necessary for success across many software and hardware-based platforms


An advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related fields, with emphasis on the application of those fields to the challenges discussed above
Specific technical areas of interest include color science, human visual system, printing technology, signal and image processing, computer vision, machine learning and optimization, communication and detection theory, and statistics.
Hands-on experience in the prototyping and display of algorithms using Matlab, Python, and/or C/C++
Experience in working with color-managed press and printing systems and/or digital and printed image and HVS quality measurement techniques
Experience in developing and characterizing imaging systems (camera, sensor, optics, lighting)
Expertise in other prototyping or software development environments, embedded systems, and/or parallel, GPU, or hardware languages would also be of interest
A track record of successfully delivering high-quality innovative research on time
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
