Job Title: Senior Accountant

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team in the transportation industry. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and contributing to the overall financial strategy of the company. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, industry regulations, and the unique financial challenges of the transportation sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting: Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP.
Month-End Close: Lead and manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, providing insights into financial trends and variances.
Cost Analysis: Conduct detailed cost analysis for various transportation projects, including fuel expenses, maintenance costs, and fleet management.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT and other transportation-specific regulations.
Internal Controls: Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
Accounts Payable/Receivable: Oversee AP/AR functions, including monitoring cash flow, collections, and vendor payments.
Audit Support: Provide support during internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to auditor inquiries.
Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate accounting processes and procedures, recommending and implementing improvements to increase efficiency.
Collaboration: Work closely with operations, fleet management, and logistics teams to align financial goals with operational objectives.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the transportation or logistics industry.
Software: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle) and advanced Excel skills. Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) is a plus.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and industry-specific financial practices.
Skills: Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Regulatory Expertise: Familiarity with transportation regulations, including compliance with DOT, IFTA, and FMCSA standards.
Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve financial discrepancies in a fast-paced environment.
