Job Details

People Management

  • Manages, directs, guides a group of Tax staff, including their career development, training and professional development, productivity, and performance.
  • Evaluates the performance of Tax staff and provides verbal and written feedback regularly.
  • Identifies personnel issues, makes recommendations, and participates in resolution.
  • Proactively mentors and develops the technical and business development skills of Tax staff.
  • Assists with the recruiting and hiring of Tax staff.
  • Provides on-the-job training; reviews complex tax accruals and tax returns prepared by staff.
  • Assists with the development of training programs and acts as instructor in professional development programs.
  • Monitors time and performance on engagements and effectively delegates work within their assigned group.

Client Service - Relationship Management

  • Identifies and assumes varying roles in the servicing of a group of clients.
  • Develops a relationship with key client personnel and provides valuable ideas on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintains contact with clients throughout the year; possesses a thorough knowledge of the client and all facets of client’s business.
  • Proactively and effectively identifies clients’ needs.
  • Provides professional services on a basis that is cost effective to the client and financially acceptable to the firm.
  • Monitors the timeliness and effectiveness of the delivery of services provided by others within the firm.
  • Prepares invoices to clients, communicates details of fees to clients, and assumes responsibility for fee collections.
  • Manages expectations of services including work products, timing, and value to be delivered.
  • Maintains a knowledge of general economic conditions, political trends and legislative initiatives for their effect on clients.
  • Uses knowledge of client’s industry to identify relevant trends, developments and key performance drivers and communicates this information to client management.
  • Attains and maintains expertise in 2-3 areas of tax and promotes that knowledge to “become famous” in the community for this knowledge.
  • May assume responsibility for signing of tax returns.

Client Service - Tax Engagement Management

  • Demonstrates excellent project management skills, inspires teamwork and responsibility with engagement team members, and uses current technology and tools to enhance the effectiveness of deliverables and service.
  • Plans, supervises, reviews and controls engagements of all sizes and complexities for tax compliance with all professional and firm standards. This includes responsibility for client adherence to compliance related deadlines such as extensions, tax estimate requirements and tax return filings, supervising time budget development and fee recommendations and working with internal staff and clients to plan engagement requirements, objectives, and strategies.
  • Communicates with appropriate individuals within the firm and documents the status of Tax engagements.
  • Be well informed of all important developments on engagement; analyzes problems and recommends solutions.
  • Communicates progress of engagements, problems and resolutions to client and team.
  • Participates in the performance of procedures especially focusing on complex, judgmental and / or specialized issues.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of complex tax concepts and their application to client situations.
  • Continues to develop a specific area of technical expertise or concentration in servicing a segment of clients.
  • Achieves the desired level of fee realization and the desired level of budget realization on services performed and supervised.

Business Promotion and Growth

  • Develops and executes personal marketing plan / programs.
  • Generates expanded revenues from existing clients through the communication and solicitation of additional services, according to personal marketing plan.
  • Generates new client revenues through the nurturing and expansion of external referral networks that identify prospect opportunities, according to personal marketing plan.
  • Participates with firm personnel in marketing efforts, including proposal development prospect calls, etc.
  • Identifies and solicits prospects, both individually and as a team.
  • Active community involvement, including leadership positions.
  • Active involvement in trade, industry, or professional groups, including leadership positions, that provide the opportunity for professional growth and promotion of firm services.
  • Maintains and enhances sales and presentation skills.
  • May participate in speaking, article writing, newspaper quotations and seminar presentations.

Department Administration

  • Understands the economics of the Tax business and its relation to the firm.
  • Assists in development and carrying out departmental goals, policies and guidelines.
  • Regularly meets with other leadership individuals to discuss and resolve issues.
  • Assumes responsibility as a resource in specialized technical areas.
  • Prepares other administrative reports and projects as requested by the Directors.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of tax resources and products of the firm.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of internal reference material
