Job Details

The core duties of the Sr. Cost Accountant are to: review, analyze, track, inventory and reconcile stock variances; provide management with monthly inventory reports. Assist in developing cost accounting procedures. Oversee the preparation and analysis of cost reports and monthly closing documents.

  • Manage the annual standard cost development process.
  • Analyze the actual costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Provide cost information for updating ERP (SAP by Design/Teridot).
  • Identify monthly material consumption, WIP quantity, labor cost, OH for processing production month end closing and book monthly COGS JEs.
  • Coordinate the monthly closing with accounting team monthly insuring correct results with minimal adjustments; Generate general ledger entries; Prepare monthly financial reporting (CIP, PPV) and balance sheet reconciliations (inventory, liabilities)
  • Provide information for weekly flash reports (when established); Prepare additional analysis as required to explain and summarize financial activity.
  • Prepare inventory movement and COGS substantive analysis.
  • Prepares monthly roll forward of fixed assets and related accumulated depreciation accounts and reconcile GL balance and sub ledger.
  • Track the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts, close out those accounts once the related projects have been completed.
  • Manage physical inventory, cycle count program, and fixed asset inventory.
  • Insure that proper financial controls exist in Inventory, Fixed Assets, and Requisition to Payment.
  • Make enhancements to financial systems as business needs change to support our internal customers.
  • Provide support as required for system implementations and upgrades.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
  • Five or more years work experience in a related job or company
  • Prior experience in Manufacturing Cost Accounting desirable
  • Prior experience with ERP software systems a plus
  • Special Skills: Demonstrated analytical proficiency; Posses the ability to understand and correlate complex business issues into simple cause and effect explanations
  • Excellent formal and informal written and oral communication skills
  • Advanced MS Excel skill: Pivot tables, vlookups, conditional statements, SUMIFs, etc.
