Job Details

The Construction Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of the company's construction projects. They ensure that budgets are properly applied, expenses are tracked, and revenue is recorded accurately. This individual works with a team of accounting and construction professionals to ensure timely and accurate reporting of project financials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, monitor and control project budgets, including forecasting future expenses and revenue
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial statements for all construction projects
  • Prepare monthly reports on financial performance of all construction projects, highlighting areas of concern and recommending actions
  • Conduct regular reviews of project expenses to ensure they are within budget, and investigate any variances
  • Prepare and submit tax returns and other compliance documents
  • Work collaboratively with project managers to ensure operational efficiencies and cost savings
  • Assist in the preparation of bid proposals and project estimates
  • Prepare and process AIA billing for all project phases
  • Review contracts and ensure compliance with all AIA requirements
  • Maintain accurate project billing records and perform timely invoice submissions
  • Manage cash flow for projects, including preparing weekly and monthly cash projections
  • Manage and reconcile sub-contractor accounts
  • Review and approve project-related invoices and payables

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction accounting or a similar role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Experience with construction software and project management tools is an asset
