Summary of responsibilities:

A Tax Director / Compliance Manager is a liaison between the partner, the client and the professional team. TD/CM's are responsible for managing multiple accounting projects and client engagements simultaneously. TD/CM's are also responsible for the efficient, accurate, complete and timely preparation of all clients’ tax returns. Advanced technical skills in a variety of tax and accounting areas, along with well-developed and applied management and supervisory skills are required. TD/CM's make decisions on all but the most unusual tax situations. TD/CM's develop and train team members and make associations to develop new business for the firm.


Essential Functions:
  • Performs technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity.

  • Assumes full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegates to the various team members as deemed necessary.

  • Responsible for all phases of a compilation, or review engagement.

  • Maintains contact with clients throughout the year; possesses a thorough knowledge of the client and the facets of client’s business.

  • Participates actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts.

  • Plan and schedule team members’ engagements using firm policies and procedures.

  • Maintains familiarity with qualifications of all team members; reviews team assignments for appropriateness.

  • Delegates and manages tax research projects to achieve an accurate and efficient product.

  • Communicates to appropriate firm personnel important tax and tax developments affecting the firm’s clients. This may include
presenting in-firm continuing education.

  • Delegates and manages governmental tax examinations; may represent the client before the appropriate taxing authorities.

  • Evaluates internal controls and work programs prepared by team members.

  • Adheres to engagement time budgets.

  • Supervises team and provides on-the-job training; reviews tax returns, work papers and reports prepared by team.

  • Works to develop responsible trained staff by assisting in recruiting, performance evaluations, developing training aids, and
acting as an instructor in professionals development programs.

  • Anticipates problem areas of engagement and questions that will arise.

  • Keeps partner informed of all important developments on engagement; analyzes problems and recommends solutions.

  • Assumes responsibility for smooth flow of tax returns through the tax preparation system to assure accurate, complete and timely
preparation and delivery of all clients’ tax returns.

  • Ensures that financial statements, tax returns, and letters of recommendations are prepared in accordance with professional and
firm standards.

  • Communicates progress of engagements, problems and resolutions to client.

  • Possesses a complete knowledge of the firm’s philosophy and its opinions on financial matters.

  • Maintains knowledge of general economic and political trends for possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business
climate.

  • May also perform functions as a Client Service Manager.

  • Required Experience:
  • At least 3 years experience in public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope and number of engagements managed.

  • Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Masters degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of forty hours of continuing professional education is required each year to maintain and develop technical and
business skills.
  • Participates in career development program to improve managerial, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Required Licenses, Certificates or Knowledge:
  • A current and valid certified public accountant’s license (Florida) is required.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
  • Proficiency in use of computers, computer accounting software, tax preparation, tax research, tax planning software programs,
spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  • Ability to operate a computer and calculator.
