Job Details

This is a full-time position; the shift is 12.3 hrs and a 3 ON / 3 OFF schedule. Due to the 24/7 nature of the plant, work on Weekends, Holidays, and Overtime are requirements of the position.

Summary/Objective

The Waste Water Treatment (WWT) Operator is responsible for managing the waste water operations at the Peabody facility. This position includes all tasks and operations required to ensure that the plant remains in compliance with permit and legal requirements; reporting to both government and NGOs as required, ensuring all waste water processes are properly maintained and operating, all material needs are available and in good working order, all treatment plant operations are running safely and maintained as a safe work environment.

All WWT Operators

  • Monitor the entire wastewater process, which includes the centrifuge and screw press sludge dewatering system, pH control, odor mitigation, and flow control.
  • Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant
  • Add specified amounts of chemicals such as polymers, hypochlorite, lime, and sulfuric acid into water effluent or adjust automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, neutralize odor, and clarify process and effluent water.
  • Start and stop agitators/screeners to mix chemicals, separate lime, and allow impurities to settle to bottom of tank.
  • Start and stop blowers and surface aerators & monitor proper dissolved oxygen levels.
  • Monitor process through HMI’s and adjust/control flow rates, valves, pumps, and other equipment.
  • Monitor discharge water (effluent) for flow, pH, B.O.D., T.S.S. on a continuous basis with daily limits.
  • Clean tanks, process lines, hoses, and process areas.
  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
  • Perform testing for TSS, turbidity, iron and % solids for wastewater, water, and sludge solids.
  • Record data related to the water and wastewater treatment system.
  • Communicate with other operations to ensure quality and that delivery needs are met.
  • Provide support to RPI as required by management.
  • Responsible for following and maintaining all Food Safety requirements.

Night Shift WWT Operators will help support Stock Preparation in the Liming Department

  • Receive osseine from Acidulation and monitors grease removal operation
  • Pump osseine into lime pits for neutralization
  • Perform drain and fills to accomplish lime changes
  • Sample lime strength and adjust as required
  • Update various databases with process information each shift
  • Pump limed osseine to Washing

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places (stairs); fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
2. Grade 4 Municipal Waste Water License (certain circumstances, will allow for an Operator to work on achieving their 4M License within a given timeframe.)
3. Related experience and/or training
4. Perform sampling and laboratory analytical work
5. Root cause and problem-solving skills
6. Be able to perform physical labor, i.e. lift 50 pounds
7. Be able to trouble shoot and repair WWT process equipment (within reason)
8. Understand applicable regulatory requirements

Preferred Education and Experience
1. Experience in a manufacturing environment
2. Forklift experience or Hoisting license is given special consideration
