Job Details

Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager/Controller will oversee all accounting functions and lead a small team in managing the financial health of the organization. This role requires a strong background in accounting within a professional services environment and a proactive approach to managing payroll, receivables, payables, compliance, and reporting. Experience in construction or consulting-related fields, including knowledge of labor compliance and lien laws, is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Manage contract and change order reviews in collaboration with project managers
Ensure labor compliance, including certified payroll and preliminary notices
Work with our external CPA firm for tax filings, audits, and strategic planning
Supervise a small accounting team and assist in training and development
Monitor and manage cash flow, budgeting, and financial forecasting
Maintain compliance with Mechanic’s Liens, Stop Work Notices, and Preliminary Notices
Support HR with payroll and benefit-related matters
Recommend and implement process improvements for operational efficiency

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in accounting/finance management within the engineering, architecture, or consulting sectors
Strong understanding of labor compliance, certified payroll, lien laws, and contract administration
Demonstrated leadership and team management skills
Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Deltek, or other industry-specific platforms)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication

Education & Experience:
Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
Candidates with extensive experience but without a degree will also be considered
CPA license is not required
