We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Permanent Assistant Controller to join our team in the construction industry. The Assistant Controller will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the financial aspects of our ongoing projects. This position offers an excellent opportunity to apply your financial acumen and leadership skills in a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding construction environment. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, problem solver, and team player with a strong background in construction accounting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee project cost accounting, ensuring all costs are accurately recorded and allocated to the correct project.
  • Manage and monitor the Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedule and percentage of completion calculations for all ongoing projects.
  • Review and approve change orders, ensuring they are properly accounted for and reflected in the project budget and financial statements.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports, providing detailed analysis and commentary on variances to budget and prior periods.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to provide financial insight and guidance on project performance and profitability.
  • Use Sage, Vista Viewpoint, Timberline, and other accounting software to maintain financial records and generate reports.
  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process, providing input based on historical trends and future expectations.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting principles, including project cost accounting, WIP, change orders, and percentage of completion.
  • Proficiency in Sage, Vista Viewpoint, Timberline, or similar construction accounting software.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership skills, with a track record of managing and developing teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism, with a commitment to ethical practices.
  • CPA certification is a plus.
