Job Details

Seeking a midlevel associate with 2-6 years of patent prosecution experience in a biotechnology practice and an advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in a life sciences technology area, e.g. molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, cell biology, and the like. Illustrative subject matter concerns patent prosecution and counseling projects with emerging companies focused on antibodies, DNA or RNA therapeutics, chemical biology, gene-editing, etc. Patent bar membership (USPTO Registration Number) is required.

  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Manage and oversee the prosecution of patent applications at USPTO.
  • Conduct IP due diligence in connection with business transactions and investments.
  • Draft and negotiate intellectual property agreements, including licensing agreements, confidentiality agreements, and technology transfer agreements.
  • Handle IP/patent litigations, including preparing legal documents, conducting legal research, and representing clients in court.
  • Collaborate with scientific and business teams to understand and protect the company’s intellectual property rights.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in intellectual property law and advise clients accordingly.

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A PhD in Biotechnology or a related field is preferred.
  • Admitted to practice law in one of the states listed above and registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in intellectual property law, with a focus on IP/patent litigation.
  • Proven experience in managing patent portfolios and IP due diligence.
  • Strong knowledge of USPTO procedures and guidelines.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and drafting skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to resolve complex legal issues.
  • Proficient in using legal research tools and software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
