Job Details

Responsibilities:
  • Legal Counsel: Offer expert legal counsel to HR professionals, managers, and executives on a broad spectrum of labor and employment law issues. This includes but is not limited to discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour compliance, employee benefits, and workplace safety.
  • Policy Development: Collaborate closely with HR and management teams to develop, review, and refine employment policies, procedures, and employee handbooks, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
  • Contract Review and Negotiation: Skillfully review, draft, and negotiate employment contracts, encompassing executive agreements, employment agreements, severance agreements, and non-compete agreements.
  • Litigation Management: Oversee labor and employment-related litigation, spanning discrimination claims, wage and hour disputes, and other employment-related lawsuits. Effectively manage external counsel and represent the hospital system in administrative proceedings and hearings.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver comprehensive training sessions for HR professionals, managers, and employees, focusing on labor and employment law compliance, best practices, and emerging legal issues.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Stay abreast of changes in labor and employment laws and regulations, evaluating their implications for the hospital system. Devise proactive strategies to ensure continuous compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks and liabilities associated with labor and employment practices, and formulate strategies to mitigate such risks effectively.
  • Dispute Resolution: Facilitate the resolution of employment-related disputes through negotiation, mediation, or alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York or New Jersey State Bar and in good standing.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience practicing labor law
  • Experience with hospital and healthcare staff required
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local labor laws as they apply to healthcare unions.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in providing practical legal advice and solutions for complex employment matters.
