Position Summary

Our client is seeking an AV Design Engineer to join its engineering team supporting the design and deployment of premium cinema installations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges and creating detailed AV system designs that move from concept all the way through construction and installation.

Rather than simply selecting equipment, you'll engineer complete audiovisual solutions for movie theaters by determining how projection systems, audio systems, specialty effects, and supporting infrastructure all work together to create a seamless customer experience.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Approximately 5–10 years of experience designing professional AV systems.
  • Strong AutoCAD skills with working knowledge of Revit.
  • Experience designing commercial audiovisual or entertainment venue systems.
  • Working knowledge of digital projection technologies, including projector selection, lens calculations, and brightness analysis.
  • Experience creating construction-ready engineering drawings that contractors can build from.
  • Familiarity with AV system integration, structured cabling, equipment rack layouts, and installation documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate technical projects with architects, consultants, contractors, and multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

Preferred experience includes AVIXA CTS or CTS-D certification, as well as familiarity with professional cinema projection platforms such as Christie or Barco.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Producing detailed AutoCAD drawing packages for theater construction and renovation projects.
  • Designing projection systems by determining the appropriate projector and lens combinations based on room size, throw distance, brightness requirements, and screen dimensions.
  • Performing projection studies to verify image brightness, coverage, and projector performance before installation begins.
  • Creating Bills of Materials (BOMs) that specify all required AV equipment and installation components.
  • Reviewing architectural drawings and coordinating with architects, structural engineers, general contractors, and installation teams to ensure the design is practical and buildable.
  • Assisting in evaluating existing theater spaces to determine whether they can support specialized immersive technologies.
  • Developing engineering details for equipment mounting, cable routing, and system integration.
  • Supporting installation teams by answering technical questions and helping resolve design issues that arise during construction.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams both domestically and internationally to standardize designs and improve engineering documentation.
