Job Details
We are seeking a mid-to-senior-level CAS/COTS Systems Integration Engineer to integrate, configure, implement, troubleshoot, maintain, and support Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software and hardware within Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)-based development, integration, and operational environments.
This is a systems integration position—not simply a Linux administration role. The ideal candidate understands how operating systems, applications, hardware, displays, networking, storage, virtualization, security controls, and automation work together. You'll be responsible for identifying and resolving complex technical issues across these interconnected systems while supporting both engineering environments and deployed operational systems.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, upgrade, integrate, and troubleshoot COTS software and associated hardware.
Implement, configure, maintain, and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
Support workstation and thin-client architectures involving GNOME, RDP, headless displays, and virtualized monitors.
Perform kernel and package updates across RHEL 7, 8, and 10 environments.
Manage DNF packages and local software repositories.
Develop Bash scripts and Ansible automation to support system configuration and operational efficiency.
Use Git for configuration management, including cloning repositories, committing changes, and managing branches and merges.
Diagnose system performance and latency issues across CPU, memory, storage I/O, networking, virtualization, applications, and remote displays.
Work within SELinux and FIPS-enabled environments.
Troubleshoot integration issues involving physical servers, workstations, displays, peripherals, KVMs, networking equipment, storage systems, virtualization platforms, operating systems, and applications.
Support both development/integration environments and deployed operational systems.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, customers, and vendors to identify root causes and resolve technical issues.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, including configuration records, implementation procedures, troubleshooting findings, system changes, automation, and operational knowledge.
Required Qualifications & Technical Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related STEM discipline.
Mid-to-senior-level hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7, 8, and/or 10).
Experience with Ansible automation and Bash scripting.
Working knowledge of DNF and local repository management.
Experience with Git configuration-management workflows, including cloning, commits, branching, and merging.
Hands-on experience with RHEL kernel patching, package updates, and troubleshooting.
Familiarity with GNOME and RDP graphical environments.
Experience supporting headless Linux display environments and virtualized monitor configurations.
Ability to analyze Linux system performance and latency across CPU, memory, storage I/O, networking, virtualization, applications, and remote-display components.
Experience working in SELinux and FIPS-enabled environments.
Experience installing, configuring, and integrating COTS software and hardware.
Strong independent troubleshooting skills and the ability to collaborate across technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (OSV).
Knowledge of containerization and high-availability architectures.
Experience with Cisco switches and routers, multicast networking, and BGP edge connectivity.
Familiarity with NetApp ONTAP, MetroCluster, and Portworx.
Experience with Jenkins and CI/CD environments.
Knowledge of STIG requirements, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and security scanning.
Previous experience supporting air traffic systems or aviation-related technology.
Relevant technical certifications, such as:
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)
Red Hat OpenShift certifications
Cisco CCNA
CompTIA Security+ or similar certifications
