Job Details
We are seeking a Controller to join our team. Successful candidate will have previous experience as Controller in healthcare environments, Long-Term Care, or Senior Living as well as GAAP and HUD experience. You will be accountable for planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions to support the preparation and communication of accurate and timely internal and external financial statements for all owned and managed communities and affiliates and HUD properties. Ensures a strong internal and external control environment and coordinate all external audits and compliance activities. Evaluates continuously process improvement opportunities and performs routine analysis, and communication of the organization’s financial position and performance, providing management with key business information to inform critical decisions. Demonstrates leadership as a change agent, embraces new technology and accounting software applications, develops and monitors business performance metrics regularly, and oversees staffing directly or by working externally with strategic partners to ensure the effective staffing, coordination, and performance of all accounting personnel.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (B.S.) or equivalent is required. Advanced Degree is a Plus
- CPA License
- 5+ years related experience at the Controller level.
- 5+ years of experience working in a senior living, long-term care, or healthcare environment preferred.
- Ability to interpret and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ensures compliance with GAAP and all third party payer regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method. Understanding and application of an ERP system or General Ledger Accounting software, and Medicare and ------ - - Medicaid reimbursement regulations.
- Working knowledge of forecasting and financial reports.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Sage Intacct, Martus, ADP or similar payroll system.
- Unquestioned integrity and demonstrated ethical behavior. Must meet commitments and maintain schedule.
- Proven leadership and business acumen skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ensures that all accounting and reporting functions for the various entities are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and are applied consistently.
- Ensures all HUD reporting deadlines and quarterly compliance requirements are met for items such as budget submissions, insurance requirements, reserve replacement requests.
- Fulfills the role of primary contact for all annual independent audits of the financial statements and preparation of annual IRS and state tax documents (e.g., Form 1099) and returns (e.g., Form 990), Medicare cost reports, and oversees the external compliance reporting for bondholders, banks, or other external stakeholders.
- Reviews, evaluates, and implements accounting systems, policies, and procedures to ensure that all internal accounting and management controls are in place.
- Accountable for the preparation and reporting of the monthly financial consolidation of all the Firms entities and affiliates. Provides informed business analysis and budget variance reporting and analysis.
- Oversees the monthly fiscal closing process including the preparation and presentation of financial statements and related reports including but not limited to balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports, budgets, variance analysis, dashboards, and Board presentations. Ensures all financial statements and reports are prepared in a timely and accurate manner. Supervises monthly balancing of books, preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of all general ledger and trial balance account details, and review of all general ledger accounts for staff and System and Management Services entities.
- Participates in and validates the capital and operating budget preparation, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification for proposed budgets.
- Maintaining and continuously improving all Sage Intacct settings, chart of accounts, report writing, and dashboards.
- Collaborates with the Manager, Revenue and Disbursements Manager to ensure collection and payment of accounts receivable and accounts payable, respectively.
- Collaborates with Manager, Treasury Operations to support informative cash planning and forecasting, an effective budget process, and provide effective business analysis. Collaborates with HR function to oversee payroll and consults with operational staff in support of the purchasing function.
- Drives continuous improvement processes across the accounting and business information systems used across all entities. Lead efforts to compress the closing cycle and seek out opportunities to automate routine functions.
- Supports company strategic planning. Leads or assists with special projects as required. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
