We are one of the largest nonprofit, charitable organizations committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We serve communities in Washington D.C., suburban Maryland and northern Virginia. Every year, we provide opportunities in wellness, aquatics, youth sports, summer camp, child care, senior health and more for over 250,000 people through our 17 branches and program centers. We are recruiting for an experienced Controller with current CPA credentials and experience working in the non-profit sector.

We are seeking a Controller to join our dynamic team in the Non-Profit industry. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in accounting and finance, with a focus on GAAP compliance and grant reporting. As a Permanent Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations within the company, ensuring that financial statements are accurate and up-to-date, and managing the budgeting process. This is a full-time position that requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting and finance.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all financial operations within the company, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
• Ensure that financial statements are accurate and up-to-date, and comply with GAAP standards
• Manage the budgeting process, including forecasting, variance analysis, and cost control
• Work closely with other departments to ensure that financial information is accurate and timely
• Prepare and submit grant reports in a timely and accurate manner
• Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
• Manage the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors
• Provide financial analysis and advice to senior management to support strategic decision-making
• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including banks, investors, and grantors

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA certification or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting and finance, preferably in the engineering industry
• Strong knowledge of GAAP compliance and grant reporting
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software
