Job Details

Our client, a well-respected nonprofit organization making a meaningful impact across the Tulsa community, is seeking an accomplished Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, this strategic leader will oversee all aspects of financial management — from budgeting and forecasting to compliance and team development — while helping guide the organization’s continued growth and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide vision and leadership for all accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and adherence to GAAP and nonprofit standards.
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year planning processes; perform scenario analyses to inform executive decision-making.
  • Review and present monthly and annual financial statements to senior leadership and the Board.
  • Manage banking relationships, cash flow, and short-term investments to optimize liquidity and returns.
  • Oversee preparation and timely submission of all compliance filings, including Form 990, audits, and grant reporting.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and coordinate all annual audit activities.
  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls and financial policies to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and executive leadership on strategic initiatives, growth planning, and risk management.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering professional growth and operational excellence.
  • Partner cross-functionally on initiatives such as system upgrades, process improvements, and new program launches.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and internal control frameworks.
  • Proven success managing budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and audit processes.
  • Experience preparing or overseeing compliance filings (Form 990, grants, etc.).
  • Strong ERP/GL system experience; new system implementation a plus.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and change-management skills.
