Finance and Accounting
- Provides financial subject matter expertise to senior leadership team and all departments in order to help assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals
- Provides leadership and manages the operation and daily activities of the accounting department (i.e. accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, cost accounting, etc.) in order to ensure accurate and effective departmental services
- Analyzes Key Performance Indicators; including P&L and balance statements, Operating Profits on Net Revenue, Utilization Rates, Net Labor Multiplier, Total Payroll Multiplier, Overhead Rate, Net Revenue per Employee, Total Employee Cost, Average Collection Period, Current Ratio and Return on Equity, in order to identify trends in indicators and makes suggestions to leadership to improve financial performance
- Safeguards assets and assures accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments
- Develops, improves and issues accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements and reports (such as balance sheets, P&L statements, Project Status Reports, Labor Detail Reports, and other key performance indicators, as needed).
- Provides financial analysis tools in order for leadership to evaluate company ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, etc. when necessary
- Assures that assets are not awkwardly encumbered with personal guarantees or unrealistic commitments
- Calculates and reconciles budget variances and reports issues to senior management
Project Accounting
- Works with Project Managers and Principal-in-Charge(s) to ensure accurate and consistent financial reporting and billing
- Assists with project set up and provides profitability analyses to help track monthly billing and aid project management
- Advises Project Managers and Principal-in-Charge(s) on project budgeting and billing and helps resolve fee allocations and project performance questions
- Sets up and manages project accounting formats; prepares customer billings; and reviews and maintains project financial files and Owner-Architect Agreements
- Oversees collection of Owner-Architect and Architect-Consultant Agreements and Liability Insurance documents for all projects
Cash Management
- Monitors the firms cash position on a daily basis
- Manages commercial banking relationships to facilitate an appropriate credit resource under highly competitive terms
- Monitors and regulates the firm's purchases
Minimum Requirements:
- Advanced knowledge and experience with a standard ERP system, ideally within the AEC industry.
- Manage all aspects of the accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Develop and implement effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Manage the budgeting and cashflow forecasting process, monitoring expenses and identifying areas for cost savings.
- Analyze financial data and performance metrics, providing management with insights to support strategic decision-making and company goals.
- Manage relationships with external auditors and other financial stakeholders.
- Stay up-to-date on accounting regulations and best practices for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.
- Utilize and maintain an integrated ERP system (e.g., Vantagepoint, Deltek Ajera, Deltek Vision, Unanet, or other industry specific platforms) efficiently.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
- May be involved in specific project costing and profitability analysis.
- Manage commercial banking relationships
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
Preferred skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
- 4+ years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
