A privately backed energy investment firm is seeking an experienced Controller to join its Accounting team. This leadership role reports directly to the VP of Finance & Accounting and collaborates closely with the Accounting Manager and other cross-functional teams. This is an in-office role based in Dallas, Texas.

Job Details

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and oversight of financial reporting across multiple entities, ensuring compliance with GAAP and industry standards
  • Oversee the submission of quarterly reports to financial sponsors and lenders
  • Manage the annual audit process and coordinate with tax advisors for timely K-1 delivery
  • Supervise third-party accounting resources to ensure accuracy and timely execution of key processes
  • Conduct financial reviews of acquisitions to support proper asset management and cash flow accuracy
  • Collaborate with internal teams (finance, land, engineering, etc.) to optimize workflows such as accruals, LOS, and variance analysis
  • Serve as a strategic leader within the accounting function, with a focus on team development and operational excellence
  • Assist with liquidity management and treasury-related tasks
  • Lead settlement processes for acquisitions and divestitures
  • Support special projects and execute additional responsibilities as needed

Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred)
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience
  • CPA designation strongly preferred, particularly with oil and gas experience
  • Proficient in accounting systems; experience with system implementations is a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with reporting tools (Spotfire, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx) and/or SQL/Python is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience working with offshore teams is a plus

Travel
  • Occasional travel (approximately 5%–10%), including annual international training with global team members
