Finance Controller Position

Based in Washington, DC, our organization is seeking a Finance Controller. This pivotal role involves leading the accounting operations and financial reporting in line with GAAP standards, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The successful candidate will oversee a team responsible for the general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, and tax-related matters, aiming to uphold the integrity of our financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • - Finance & Accounting Oversight: Ensure all financial operations comply with GAAP and regulatory standards. Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements and reports, ensuring timely delivery to management. Implement robust internal controls for financial transactions and assets.

  • - Audit & Compliance: Act as the main liaison for external audit activities, ensuring efficient and compliant audit processes. Participate in the preparation and review of financial committees' documentation.

  • - Process Improvement: Drive the optimization of accounting procedures for enhanced efficiency and precision. Advise on finance and accounting practices to support organizational goals.

  • - Budgeting & Financial Analysis: Facilitate the annual budget planning and provide comprehensive financial analyses. Manage cash flow and oversee investment strategies and reporting.

  • - Internal Controls & Policy Management: Update and enforce finance and accounting policies, ensuring a clear division of responsibilities in coordination with the CFO.

  • - Leadership & Development: Foster a culture of growth and knowledge within the finance team, aligning with the organization’s vision. Enhance team skills and internal communication to ensure process efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation is a must, MBA is highly desirable.
  • - Though not exclusively, experience in grant accounting/non profit accounting is required.
  • - A minimum of 5-7 years in a supervisory role, with 10-15 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting management.
  • - Comprehensive knowledge of financial reporting, accounting principles, and risk management.
  • - Experience with audit coordination, financial reporting systems (ERP, Dynamics SL, and Management Reporter preferred; Solver BI360 and Tableau a plus).
  • - Proven track record in grants management and familiarity with reporting requirements for various funding bodies.
  • - Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
