We are a rapidly growing company that specializes in hospitality, retail, office, and ground-up construction. We are seeking a Construction Cost Accountant to support our expansion efforts while effectively managing our job cost accounting.

The Construction Cost Accountant will oversee the Project Cost Accounting function for construction projects and collaborate with Project Managers throughout the entire project cycle. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing financial documents and transactions related to contracts, purchase orders, change orders, and invoices in a timely and accurate manner. The incumbent must have excellent communication skills, possess the ability to establish lasting business relationships, exhibit professionalism, and maintain excellent attendance.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures and cost and accounting standards while performing day-to-day activities and functions.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Teams to complete tasks promptly.
  • Interact and communicate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure invoicing is submitted per contractual terms.
  • Perform vendor account reconciliations.
  • Maintain organized records of meetings, open items, and decisions.
  • Electronically maintain accurate, well-documented project records.
  • Review subcontractor A/R and Central's A/P reports as needed to keep payments on schedule.
  • Perform ad-hoc projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the monthly construction draw process, AIA preparation, and construction change orders.
  • Comprehensive understanding of G702/703 progress billings and change orders.
  • A comprehensive understanding of construction billing, including retainage, lien waivers, and insurance.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively and productively with other employees.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and reliability.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Word.

Education and Experience:

  • An Associate's degree in Accounting is preferred.
  • Five years of job cost accounting experience or Sage (Timberline) software experience is required.
