Job Details
The Employee Benefits Account Manager is responsible for managing and servicing a designated book of business, focusing on group employee benefits. This individual works closely with producers, clients, and carriers to ensure the successful implementation, renewal, and ongoing support of benefits plans. A strong understanding of health and welfare benefits, compliance requirements, and client servicing is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for a portfolio of group benefit clients.
Manage the complete renewal process, including gathering census data, marketing to carriers, analyzing proposals, preparing client presentations, and overseeing implementation.
Maintain ongoing communication with clients to address service issues, benefit questions, and plan updates throughout the policy year.
Prepare and present open enrollment materials and coordinate employee education meetings with carriers or internal presenters.
Collaborate with Producers and Account Executives to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
Stay current on industry trends, legislation, and compliance matters such as ACA, ERISA, COBRA, and HIPAA, and ensure clients are informed and compliant.
Process new enrollments, changes, and terminations; work with carriers and third-party vendors to resolve billing and claims issues.
Maintain accurate documentation in agency management systems (e.g., BenefitPoint, AMS360, EPIC, or similar).
Support clients with benefit administration platforms and HRIS integration when applicable.
Attend carrier meetings, training sessions, and webinars to stay informed on product offerings and service updates.
Identify upselling or cross-selling opportunities and collaborate with Producers to present value-added solutions.
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in employee benefits, preferably within an insurance agency or brokerage setting.
Active Life & Health Insurance License (required).
Proficiency with agency management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong knowledge of group health insurance products, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefits.
Solid understanding of benefits compliance and regulatory requirements.
Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.
Ability to manage multiple accounts and prioritize tasks effectively.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with self-funded and level-funded plan designs.
Familiarity with HR technology platforms and online enrollment systems.
