This role will play a critical part in managing all aspects of cost accounting, providing insights into inventory management, and delivering analytical support to help guide operational and financial decisions.
The individual in this position will be responsible for analyzing product costs—including labor, overhead, and materials—while also overseeing inventory reserve calculations. This role requires strong expertise in cost accounting principles, along with the ability to develop and improve systems for tracking inventory costs across products and facilities. Success in this role will depend on your ability to work under tight deadlines, think strategically, and provide sound recommendations based on financial and operational data.
As part of this role, you will collaborate closely with teams across planning, manufacturing, procurement, supply chain, and audit, gaining broad exposure to the business and contributing to initiatives that drive operational efficiency and financial accuracy.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Establish, manage, and refine cost accounting methodologies and systems.
- Set and maintain standards for material, labor, and overhead costs.
- Reconcile detailed inventory records to the general ledger and provide analysis of balances monthly.
- Draft, update, and test policies and procedures related to inventory costing and control.
- Partner with internal teams on inventory management, including physical and cycle counts, error tracking, batch management, and movement controls.
- Analyze cost of goods sold monthly, highlighting variances and trends, and recommend process improvements.
- Support and mentor junior accountants, fostering knowledge-sharing and cross-training across the team.
- Assist external auditors with inventory and costing inquiries, reports, and supporting documentation during annual audits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (required).
- Familiarity with MRP/MPS systems (required).
- Professional credentials such as CPA, CMA, or APICS (preferred).
- 5–10 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally with exposure to standard costing
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and a strong financial analysis skill set.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work across departments.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (NetSuite or similar) and advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
