Job Details
This role is primarily responsible for overseeing and preparing indirect tax returns, including State and Local Sales and Use Tax (SUT) and Canadian HST/GST/PST. Additional responsibilities include supporting various indirect tax areas such as Abandoned Unclaimed Property (AUP), Business Registration and Licenses, Personal Property Tax (PPT), Real Property Tax (RPT), and Puerto Rico-specific taxes and declarations. The Manager will also provide audit assistance and support special projects as needed.
Job Details/Responsibilities
Compliance Management:
Oversee and manage the preparation and review of indirect tax returns.
Ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance for TAH and its subsidiaries.
Utilize OneSource compliance software, SAP reports, and Tax Engine for compliance tasks.
Handle electronic filings and EDI processes for various jurisdictions.
Post payments and reconcile tax liability accounts monthly in SAP.
Address and resolve compliance notices promptly.
Other Indirect Tax responsibilities:
Staff Training: Train and support staff on indirect tax compliance procedures and systems.
Process Improvement: Review and assess existing compliance processes.
Data Analysis: Perform detailed data analysis using Excel and tax engine tools.
Exemption Certificate Management: Oversee the management of exemption certificates and collaborate with staff on strategic planning.
Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of compliance processes, including month-end close, payment procedures, and reconciliation of tax liability accounts.
Team Development: Manage and mentor the indirect tax team, providing guidance and support to foster their growth and development.
Policy and Procedure:
Collaborate with internal audit to establish and document internal control procedures and recommend testing protocols.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)
Proven ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet deadlines and objectives.
Capacity to work independently, taking ownership of tasks and projects to drive them to completion.
Willingness and ability to work overtime when necessary to complete special projects, audits, and compliance activities, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Knowledge of SAP S4HANA, Ariba, and ERP Finance and Controlling processes, particularly in relation to taxation is preferred.
Qualifications/ Background Experiences
Bachelor’s in Finance/Accounting or related field and a minimum of 7 years of indirect tax compliance experience required, people manager preferred, or a combination of relevant experience, education and training.
Strong preference for a mix of experience from Big 4 firms, large diversified corporate environments, and the medical products industry.
Experience in Indirect Tax (IDT) to accurately identify tax exposures and implement procedures to minimize the company’s IDT burden in accordance with relevant laws and regulations required
Experience with OneSource IDT Global Tax Software is preferred.
Experience with tax research software such as BNA and CCH is required.
Experience in establishing relationships and working effectively in a matrix organization structure is critical to success in this role.
