Litigation Legal Assistant – Medical Malpractice Insurance Defense
A medical malpractice insurance defense firm has an opening for an experienced, full-time litigation secretary for a busy Partner's desk. The position is non-exempt with a 37.5-hour work week. We offer an excellent benefits package and a hybrid schedule after an initial in-office onboarding period.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist attorney with all aspects of managing cases through trial
Prepare and organize discovery, motions and other pleadings, including deposition notices and subpoenas; trial/hearing binder creation and preparation of exhibits
Type correspondence, pleadings, memoranda and other legal documents; draft standard correspondence and other documents
Review, sort and chit incoming documents and mail
Establish and maintain calendar and deadline reminder systems; utilize master calendar system
E-file court documents; familiarity with local rules of Court, State and Federal Courts
Electronic transcription
Open new files, request conflict of interest checks, and maintain all client and general files; prepare files to be closed
Receive clients and visitors; maintain good public relations with clients; observe confidentiality of attorney-client relationship
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Minimum of seven years of litigation experience required, with the ability to produce accurate legal documents with minimal supervision
Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints
Strong proofreading skills; familiarity with medical terminology and spellings a plus
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff with courtesy and tact
Ability to maintain a high level of mental effort while producing a high volume of work
Flexibility to occasionally work beyond 37.5 hours to meet the demands of the position
