We are seeking a seasoned Lumber Grader to join our dynamic manufacturing team. This is a permanent position for a professional with an extensive background in the lumber and hardwood industry. This role requires a deep understanding of wood properties, an eye for detail, and the ability to make critical decisions that impact the quality of our products. In this position, you will be responsible for grading and inspecting a variety of hardwood lumber according to established standards. This is a unique opportunity for a candidate who has a passion for working with wood and wants to contribute to a team that values quality and craftsmanship.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform detailed inspections of hardwood lumber to determine its grade, using industry standards and company guidelines.
2. Utilize your knowledge of wood properties and defects to accurately grade lumber.
3. Record inspection results, maintain accurate grading records, and report any quality issues to management.
4. Conduct routine maintenance on grading equipment to ensure it remains in good working order.
5. Work closely with the production team to ensure the highest quality of lumber is used in our products.
6. Train and mentor junior staff members on proper grading techniques and standards.
7. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, advances in wood technology, and changes in grading standards.
8. Contribute to the continuous improvement of our grading processes by suggesting and implementing changes that increase efficiency and improve quality.
Qualifications:
1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a lumber grading role, preferably in the hardwood industry.
2. Proven knowledge of lumber, hardwood, and grading techniques.
3. Certified Lumber Inspector designation from the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) or equivalent is highly desirable.
4. Strong attention to detail with the ability to make quick, accurate decisions.
5. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
6. Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting.
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
8. Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
9. Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in a variety of weather conditions.
