Maintenance Technician – Mechanic
6 month contract to start with potential to move to full-time
Hourly pay with overtime potential
Expected hours are 7PM-7AM (2-2-3 schedule)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Keeps plant machinery and mechanical equipment in good repair; examines machines to diagnose trouble, dismantles machines, replaces defective parts, reassembles machines, and makes necessary adjustments to ensure efficient operation. May occasionally make replacement parts; performs intermediate troubleshooting, works with limited technical guidance; perform PM work as directed.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (Key Performance Indicator):
Perform general maintenance to maintain plant equipment
Maintains/installs/repairs plant equipment, particularly pumps, piping, compressors, and motors
Maintains/repairs buildings and auxiliaries, including carpentry and painting
“On-call” when scheduled and/or as needed
Performs all work within safety guidelines and regulations
Deal with hazardous waste as necessary, using appropriate disposal methods
SCHEDULE (Key Performance Indicator):
Must be able to work weekends and/or shift work
Ability to be on call as scheduled (as needed)
Understand that you may not always work the same hours
Must live within 30-45 minutes travel time to the plant
Ability to work a 12-hour 2-2-3 schedule
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS’ JOBS (Key Performance Indicator):
Interact with co-workers (team environment)
Interact with plant employees, including Plant Supervisors and Management
Understand that others need your help
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years experience in manufacturing maintenance (chemical a plus)
Working knowledge of general maintenance procedures and methods
Working knowledge of pumps, gear reducers, electric motors, and lubrication methods, utility equipment, boilers, air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, and vacuum pumps
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work outside (all seasons)
Lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
Climb ladders/stairs
Able to bend, crawl, stoop
Wear all required PPE, including fall protection and respirator as needed
Not afraid of heights or confined spaces
Push/pull up to 50 lbs.
Able to drive a forklift/yard jockey
TRAVEL:
Minimal (possibly to other company locations located within the Charlotte area)
REPORTS TO:
Maintenance Manager
DIRECT REPORTS:
Not applicable
