Job Description
- As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) you will play a vital role in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients
- You will work as part of a healthcare team, following all policies, procedures, and regulations set forth by the corporation and relevant authorities
- Provide patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (our RN) or in a treatment room adjacent to an RN
- Report and document all incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment
- Support the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI) Activities
- Assist in meeting Total Area Productivity goals
- Set up and prime equipment for renal replacement therapies according to instructions
- Welcome and inquire about patients' well-being since their last treatment
- Evaluate vascular access for patency and report any unusual findings
- Obtain pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight
- Perform vascular access cannulation and report any difficulties or unusual findings
- Program individual patients' dialysis machine settings as prescribed
- Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled
- Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters
- Initiate renal replacement treatment according to prescribed orders
- Collect and label specimens for laboratory testing
- Evaluate and intervene in intradialytic problems as prescribed or directed
- Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings
- Obtain vital signs and perform necessary functions for treatment discontinuation and documentation
- Evaluate patients' vascular access during treatment and provide necessary intervention
- Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures
- Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access and apply appropriate dressings
- Perform and record pre and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, and vital signs
- Other duties as required
