Job Details:

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Patent Attorney to join our Legal team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of patent-related activities in the Life Sciences industry, including patent preparation, prosecution, and strategic counseling. The successful candidate will have a strong scientific and technical background, preferably in the fields of cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, immunology, genetics, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, and chemistry. Experience in nucleic acid therapeutics, immunotherapeutics, delivery vectors, and organic chemistry is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the U.S. and coordinating with foreign counsel to protect inventions internationally.
• Conducting patentability and freedom to operate assessments and providing strategic advice regarding the same.
• Advising on patent-related issues, including licensing and litigation.
• Collaborating with scientists to identify patentable inventions and develop patent strategies.
• Interacting with the USPTO, in-house counsel, outside counsel, and management regarding patent matters.
• Keeping informed of legal, technical, and market developments to understand their potential impact on the company's patent portfolio.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Life Sciences, Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, Immunology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4-7 years of experience as a patent attorney, preferably in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
• Demonstrated experience with patent preparation and prosecution, and familiarity with USPTO procedures.
• Excellent scientific and technical understanding, with the ability to quickly grasp new scientific concepts.
• Strong drafting skills with attention to detail and the ability to craft legally sound and clear patent applications.
• Experience with nucleic acid therapeutics, immunotherapeutics, delivery vectors, and organic chemistry is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal and scientific concepts clearly and effectively.
