Position Overview:
As a Project Development Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the development of large-scale renewable energy projects from initial site identification through to financial closing and construction. You’ll manage the conceptual design of utility-scale wind, solar power plants, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Key Responsibilities:
Technical Support & Project Design:
Lead the evaluation of prospective project sites, ensuring technical feasibility by reviewing geotechnical, hydrological, seismic, and topographic constraints. Work closely with the development team to identify and mitigate technical risks early in the project lifecycle.
Develop conceptual designs to ensure that the projects meet economic and capacity targets.
Engineering & Design Management:
Manage the design process for both mid-stage and late-stage projects, including wind, solar, and BESS projects.
Lead the coordination of preliminary designs, including collection systems, substations, transmission design, and electrical/civil design.
Work with engineering consultants and internal teams to optimize designs for cost efficiency and project improvement.
Collaboration & Optimization:
Collaborate across teams, including development, permitting, finance, and asset management, to ensure all designs meet regulatory requirements.
Stay ahead of trends and new technologies within the renewable energy sector and actively contribute to the development of design standards for project infrastructure.
Site Visits & On-Site Support:
Participate in site visits to evaluate constructability and ensure alignment with project goals.
Provide ongoing technical support during the operational phase, troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise in collaboration with O&M and Asset Management teams.
Travel Requirements:
Travel is expected to be between 10% and 20% of the time, providing on-the-ground support to project sites.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in renewable energy engineering (with preference for wind energy experience).
- Expertise in early-stage/pre-construction design and oversight of utility-scale projects.
- Construction phase knowledge is a plus.
- Proficiency in design and siting software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, PVcase, PVSyst, and other related tools.
- Strong collaborative skills and a passion for contributing to sustainable energy solutions.
