Job Details

o Directs & coordinates care for Labor & Delivery, Nursery, & Post Partum units for adult & newborn patients
o Responsible for management of laboring patient and fetal monitoring
o Newborn care (birth through discharge) high acuity patients; resuscitation, stabilization, and intermediate care
o Education to new mothers on breastfeeding resources and technique
o Assist anesthesia personnel with epidurals and other procedures as needed
o Recovers patients after deliveries, c-sections, or other procedures
o Provides instructions to patients, family members, and significant others, communicates information about the delivery progress, as directed
o Documents in electronic medical record in a clear, concise and accurate manner all information related to the patient’s procedure and plan of care
o Collaboratively works with surgical teams for all procedures. Ensures all specimens are handled appropriately in accordance with hospital policy
o Assists in positioning to ensure proper positioning to protect the patient from injury, prepping and draping of all patients for procedures
o Formulates plan of care that is individualized according to patient’s needs
o Responds quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment
o Interprets patient data and status and provide care based one PT age, and specific needs
o Shift/Schedule: Nights 7p-7a

Minimum Education
  • Current Texas Registered Nurse Licensure
  • One year of recent Labor and Delivery, Postpartum or Newborn Nursery experience preferred
  • Current BLS certification required
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire
  • Basic Fetal Monitoring certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring required within one year of hire
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring required after 3 years of hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Certification (NRP) certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Neonatal STABLE course required within one year of hire

Required Skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and writing, bilingual (Spanish) a Plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service
  • Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Proficient Microsoft Office and Outlook
