We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Area Safety Coordinator for our heavy civil construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing and managing the company’s safety programs and initiatives. This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual who is passionate about safety and committed to ensuring the well-being of our employees, subcontractors, and the general public. The Area Safety Coordinator will report directly to the Safety Manager and will work closely with project teams to ensure compliance with safety regulations and to promote a culture of safety within the organization.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT).
2. Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
3. Coordinate and conduct safety training sessions and seminars for employees and subcontractors.
4. Lead emergency response efforts and conduct accident investigations, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions.
5. Conduct risk assessments, identifying potential hazards and implementing preventative measures.
6. Work closely with project teams to integrate safety measures into project planning and execution.
7. Maintain thorough records of all safety-related documents, reports, and inspections.
8. Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or related field.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in safety management in the heavy civil construction industry.
3. Certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) including Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Safety Trained Supervisor - Construction (STS-C), or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
4. Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA 30, safety management, risk assessment, construction safety, emergency response, and workplace safety.
5. Demonstrated ability to implement policy and procedures in a large, diverse organization.
6. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
8. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
9. Must be willing to travel to various project sites.
10. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
