Based in the Lake Charles area, we are a leading force in the energy industry, and seeking a dynamic Fire Safety Engineer to join our team. The Fire Safety Engineer oversees the refinery fire protection systems, including pumps, piping distribution, deluge, and mobile and portable equipment. This role manages the overall process for completing inspection, testing, and maintenance of the firewater systems within the refineries. In addition, this role provides engineering expertise to the refinery life safety, fire, and other safety requirements to continuously improve the refinery’s safety performance and readiness. The position requires a degree in fire engineering or fire and hazardous material related degrees.

Job Details

Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other technical field plus 8 years of job-related experience required
Professional Engineer license preferred
Must have thorough knowledge of OSHA regulation, NFPA, and other and fire safety and life safety codes and standards
Strong analytical skills
Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker's Identification Credential (TWIC)

Job Duties
Manages compliance with all applicable standards and ensures the reliability of Lake Charles’ Fire Protection Equipment including the firewater system, all fire water pumps and all automatic fire detection and suppression systems through various periodic inspection and testing programs.
Leads efforts to ensure performance and maintenance of fixed fire water suppression infrastructure, plans jobs to minimize downtime, and suggests innovative ways to enhance system performance and efficiencies.
Evaluates fire protection risks, approves new installations and equipment, provides safety engineering expertise for capital projects, and serves as a technical resource on loss control, fire protection, and safety matters.
Oversees operating condition of fire water system pressure and pump operations, conducts tests and analyzes results to improve system capacity and reliability, and oversees all Fire Water System/Protection System repairs.
Mentor and train new engineers and others within your work group whether as their supervisor or just as an experienced individual sharing information for others to benefit.
Participates as a member of the Lake Charles Emergency Response Team and will respond to Level 2 & 3 incidents and Level 1 incidents, as required.
Manages Small Safety TS&E/Capital Projects, develops AFEs, Project Design Basis, detailed engineering documents, and Project Execution Plan, and ensures project implementation per the execution plan and within budget.
Develops short-term and long-term capital and maintenance plans for the firewater systems based on inspection reports, repair analysis, and risk-based analysis from consulting services.
