Job Details
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for an assigned portfolio of properties/entities. The candidate will report to the firm’s Controller and Accounting Manager. We are looking for a hands-on, detailed oriented individual who will be able to analyze and account for a portfolio of commercial, hospitality, development and residential properties at various levels.
This position requires a hands-on self-starter with the ability to take initiative and solve problems. The office is located in Westchester, NY, with easy access off major highways.
Specific responsibilities include:
· Manage the full-cycle accounting process for a portfolio of properties, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
· Prepare monthly journal entries for tax and GAAP purposes
· Prepare monthly financial statements including, income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement
· Prepare monthly variances as it relates to actual versus budget and prior periods
· Coordinate with property managers and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
· Analyze tenant billing for real estate tax escalations and common area maintenance charges
· Coordinate with lenders on reserve draws and fundings
· Prepare workpapers for submission to outside accounting firm
· Review trial balances and supporting schedules received from third party managers for accuracy
· Review all balance sheet accounts for accuracy on a monthly basis
· Prepare or review monthly bank reconciliations
· Update fixed asset schedules and record monthly depreciation and amortization
· Develop annual budgets and reforecasts in conjunction with property management and lease administration
Qualifications
· Strong work ethic must be able to see projects through to completion, self-motivated, resourceful and proactive
· Strong analytical ability and ability to think critically
· Strong computer skills including Excel (ability to create formulas in excel)
· Ability to learn new computer software quickly
· Strong communication and organization skills
· Ability to work independently, effectively prioritize, and multi-task under pressure
· Strong understanding of how the three financial statements link together, ability to go from tax basis to accrual basis
· Experience in a public accounting setting as an auditor preferred
· Existing knowledge of MRI preferred
· BS in Accounting from an accredited university/college
· Minimum of 4 Years accounting experience - open to all levels of experience greater than 4 years
· Strong attention to detail, must take pride in delivering quality work product
