We are in search of an experienced Senior Estimator(Civil) to join our team. This role is best suited for an individual with a strong background in the construction industry, particularly in the areas of heavy civil, roadway projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for our civil construction projects, from the conceptual phase through to the final detailed estimate. This role requires an individual who is highly proficient in the use of estimating software such as Heavybid and HCSS, and who has a deep understanding of MTA, paving, site work, highway, excavation, and LIRR.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for:
1. Preparing detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including heavy civil, roadway, and site development.
2. Analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects or services.
3. Assessing cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
4. Consulting with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
5. Conducting special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
6. Preparing estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
7. Reviewing material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you should have:
1. A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on heavy civil, roadway, and MTA projects.
3. Proficiency in estimating software such as Heavybid, HCSS, OST, AGTEK preferred.
4. Local agency experience (NYDOT/MTA/NYDDC)
5. Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
8. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
9. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate and high-quality work.
10. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel as needed.
